Abisko Off the Trails - a Wild Camping ski Expedition
Abisko Off the Trails - a Wild Camping ski Expedition
A remote guided one week backcountry fell ski tour in the northern part of Scandinavian fells starting and ending from the Abisko village in Northern Sweden. The grand arctic experience for the adventurous, with average daily legs of 15 km (about 100 km in total), and staying the whole tour above the treeline. For groups of up to 6 people. Organised from December to mid-May.
Level of solitude 4/5 during the polar night, 3/5 from late February to mid-May. (During the polar night it is very unlikely that you will meet anyone during the tour, but in the high season it is possible to see someone else, especially when skiing closer to Abisko)
Difficulty 4/5 (high difficulty since the area is very exposed and goes through remote fells without trails, above the treeline and located far north)
Suitable for persons over 18 years old, who have experience in hiking and wild camping, above average fitness level and some previous skiing experience (not necessarily on backcountry)
Group size: 2-6 people
Guiding languages: English
Can be organised on a weekly basis between December to mid-May, but please note that the earlier winter departures are more demanding than the later spring departures in terms of temperature, length of the daylight hours and the amount of other people travelling in the area.
Fancy about a guided arctic fell tour with wild camping experience? Or are you searching for the solitude inside a large and a remote wilderness area? If so, this is the tour for you!
In this wild camping remote fell ski tour you will experience the Scandinavian fells at their best, spending most of the time in about 1000 meters altitude well above the treeline, enjoy tasty meals in the wilderness setting and get to enjoy the solitude of the Scandinavian wilderness. Most nights are spend in high guality winter tents, but at the beginning and end of the tour we spend a night on the Abisko fell station between the sheets and very welcome sauna possibility.
Scandinavian mountains near the Abisko region are well known for their dramatic landscapes, unspoiled mountain wilderness, mountain rivers, glaciers, and high activity of northern lights. The nearby Abisko village is the starting point of the most famous Swedish hiking route "King's trail", but this tour takes you off-the-track to enjoy the grand views on a demanding uncrowded fells.
At the beginning and end of the tour you will spend a night in a cosy accommodation in Abisko village, enjoying genuine Sauna and tasty restaurant meals. Note that in this tour, the BC skiing refers to the act of moving in the wilderness with skis with the nordic tradition which is best understood as the winter equivalent of hiking. The tour includes uphills and downhills, but the tour is not centered on going down.
Note that in this tour there is a minimum of 2 participants (or equivalent sum paid)!
