Lemmenjoki gold rush autumn hike

€1,250.00

A remote guided one week autumn hike on the scenery of the largest and northernmost national park in Finland. Full board, accommodation on tour by camping, and in a genuine Finnish log-cabin at the first and final day of the tour. Organizable from late August until early October.

  • Difficulty level: 2-3 (raised because of remoteness, suitable to anyone with moderate physical condition)

  • for groups of 4-8 persons (bigger groups possible on request)

  • Average walking distance: 20km a day

Enjoy a remote wilderness hike week in the northernmost National park in Finland - Lemmenjoki, a land of gold and the scene of the biggest gold rush in Europe.

The hike will take you well beyond the borders of modern civilization in the Lemmenjoki National Park, giving you geological knowledge about the previous ice age, information about the world's oldest bedrock and have an unique viewpoint to the European gold rush history's second peak at 1946.

The hike takes you through the natural beauty of Lappish wilderness including boreal forest, beautiful fells and waterfalls which are amongst the most beautiful in Lapland, almost borderless landscapes, and this all happens at the time of the year when the ground is colored by the magnificent autumn colors and it is dark enough to see the northern lights with a bit of luck. At the end of the hike there is a boat ride that enables you to see the beauty of the Lemmenjoki also from the water side.

In the beginning and in the end of the tour you get to stay in a cozy log cabin in the camping area operated by the local Sami family, who are happy to teach you about the cultural history of Sami people and reindeer herding. You also have the opportunity to pet the reindeers walking in the yard. All the required gear (ie. top of the line backpack, shelter, sleeping bag etc.) excluding clothes will be handed out to you prior to the trip, but remember that it is a joint venture and everybody is expected to contribute in carrying his/her share.

Organisable from July to October, for tailored departures for groups of 4-8
